DAVID PRESSAULT - JUNGIAN ANALYST IAAP

David is a Jungian analysis with a strong background in the Arts. He developed a relationship to the unconscious through the art form of contemporary dance. He was a professional dancer and choreographer for 20 years and he still creates dances when time permits. In 2005, he retired from the stage as a dancer and began a Masters in dance at UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal). The following year, he began his training in Analytical Psychology at the Ontario Association of Jungian Analysts and graduated in February 2012. Since then he has worked in private practice and offered supervision.

David’s fields of interest include art, finding one’s creative nature, the individuation process as an embodied and lived reality and the exploration and interpretation of dreams.

He accompanies adults struggling with different life issues. His work invites one to share, observe and explore their life story. In this process, unconscious issues that are a source of suffering in the present reality are made conscious. In so doing, new energy can become available. This invites a different life view, better choices and new ways of being in the world which are more in tune with one’s deeper self. He works with dreams, artistic and creative material, along with everyday life situations.

WORKING with david

If you are interested in doing analysis here are a few things to consider.

Sessions in analysis are 55 minutes, once a week. These can be done in person or online.

Online sessions are done through Zoom.

The first session is 20 minutes and it's free. This session is just to introduce ourselves and see if we can work together. This way I can determine if I'm the right person for you and what you are dealing with and also you can see if you like talking to me and if this type of work suits you.

My fee is $150 US per session. Depending on the frequency of the work and the situation, the fee can be adapted to specific needs.

My practice is full at the moment and not taking on any new analysands,

ON JUNGIAN ANALYSIS

Jungian analysis is particularly helpful in assisting one to find what unconscious aspects of the personality need to be made conscious and integrated. At some point in our life, we are faced with issues that we have difficulty coping with. These issues can come up because of our relationships, our work situation or family problems. However, oftentimes we discover that there is a deeper source to what we are experiencing, and this asks us to go inside and ask the deeper questions. Analysis is a gentle way to talk, be received and heard in our life difficulties. This dialogue brings about new perspectives and can help one not only make better sense with what is being experienced but also initiate a transformation where a deeper, more involved and creative part of ourselves can emerge. In a sense, we outgrow our difficulties as we discover that we have inner resources and a creative potential that enriches our life.

Working with dreams is a profound road to self knowledge and understanding. Through dreams we have a window into our inner workings. Also, dreams are helpful guides into what needs to be made conscious and what is the next step on our path towards psychological development (individuation). Similarly, if we are off track or lose ourselves, dreams invite us towards the path that is our own and helps one get in touch with deeper meaning.

Analysis is a process that is all about you and who you are. It's about giving yourself the time to know what is deeply personal and meaningful to you. It engages you to discover the mystery of your path and at the same time, create it. It's also about becoming responsible for your life and your freedom. To me, analysis is the greatest gift you can give yourself. It's about seeing to your soul and the beginning of the journey, to a soulful life.

In this 2-part course we look at C. G. Jung’s way of working with dreams and some of his approach to their symbolic language. CREATIVITY, Freedom & Our Parental Complexes

VIDEO SEMINAR • $17 US

In these times of imposed seclusion, it’s difficult to find a sense of freedom. Trying to move freely is filled with obstacles, limitations and impositions. However, when it comes to the imagination and much of Jung's work on cultivating an inner life, an impaired outer freedom can be fertile ground for the creative impulse. This said, the freedom to create seems to be a minefield of complexes, especially, parental complexes. We will look at this particularity of the parental complexes and inquire how and why they seem to wait around the corner and get in the way when we are about to be creative or free.

David will give a short presentation on our freedoms lost connected not only to the pandemic but our parental complexes. Then we will open up the discussion on any questions around the topic of creativity and parental complexes.

Video recording will be available to all registered attendees.

Jung at the Movies: “I Am Love”

Jung Ontario

By viewing short excerpts of the film, I Am Love, we will consider what unconscious psychological dynamics are at work in this wealthy Italian family and how these are portrayed symbolically. Also, discussions on the different characters will be a helpful way to recognize and better understand certain Jungian concepts. Required viewing before seminar: Prior to this workshop we invite participants to watch Luca Guadagnino’s film “I am Love” available for rent on iTunes.

Jean-Paul Sartre’s striking remark about the French nation when he said in an interview for the Atlantic in 1944 ‘Never were we freer than under the German occupation’ was cleverly used by philosopher Julian Baggini in a thought provoking article in which he adds : “Sartre’s core insight was that it is only when we are physically stopped from acting that we fully realise the true extent and nature of our freedom. If he (Sartre) is right, then the pandemic is an opportunity to relearn what it means to be free.”

David will give a short presentation on our freedoms lost in these pandemic times and how this can be an opportunity to cultivate our creative impulse. Then we will open up the discussion on any questions around creativity and working with our inner imaginative and creative selves.

DANCING INTO BODY AND IMAGINATION

presented by David Pressault IAAP,

This creative dance workshop will focus on simple movement explorations. It will invite participants to bring their consciousness to their bodies along with the experience of moving freely in space. Moving our bodies on music, letting sound and movement take us, is not only one of the oldest forms of expression but also a profound experience to contemporary existence. It can, if we let it, give voice to both the instinctive and imaginative parts of us along with connecting to our feelings. There will be a guided movement exploration using the imagination on different inner themes. Following these movement explorations there will be open discussions which will give a chance for participants to express what they felt. Every participant will be encouraged to go at his/her own rhythm and comfort zone. No dance experience is needed.

Participants are advised to be in comfortable clothes so they can move. Also, you will need a space to move of approx. 8 feet by 8 feet.

“At this point the fact forces itself on my attention that beside the field of reflection there is another equally broad if not broader area in which rational understanding and rational modes of representation find scarcely anything they are able to grasp. This is the realm of Eros.” – C. G. Jung

“Where love reigns, there is no will to power; and where the will to power is paramount, love is lacking. The one is but the shadow of the other: the man who adopts the standpoint of Eros finds his compensatory opposite in the will to power, and that of the man who puts the accent on power is Eros.” – C. G. Jung

Just as we tend to assume that the world is as we see it, we naively suppose that people are as we imagine them to be. In this latter case, unfortunately, there is no scientific test that would prove the discrepancy between perception and reality. Although the possibility of gross deception is infinitely greater here than in our perception of the physical world, we still go on naively projecting our own psychology into our fellow human beings. In this way, everyone creates for himself a series of more or less imaginary relationships based essentially on projection.” – C. G. Jung
